How to Make a Bar of Soap Last Longer

Turmeric Soap Bar — 100 g, packaged bar with turmeric root

A quality bar of soap is one of the best deals in grooming — a single 100 g bar can cover weeks of showers. But a bar left sitting in a puddle will melt away in days. The difference is storage, not the soap. Five habits that stretch every bar:

1. Keep it dry between uses

This is the big one. A bar that stays wet stays soft, and soft soap washes down the drain. Use a soap dish with drainage or a slatted rack, and put it where the shower spray doesn't hit it directly.

2. Let it cure a head start

A fresh bar gets harder — and longer-lasting — if it air-dries for a day or two before its first use. If you stock up, store spare bars somewhere dry and open to air, not sealed in plastic.

3. Lather with your hands or a cloth, not the bar

Rubbing the bar directly all over uses more soap than you need. Work up a lather in your hands (or on a washcloth) and let the bar itself stay mostly dry.

4. Cut big bars in half

Half a bar in the shower and half in the cabinet means only half is ever getting wet. The stored half stays hard and fresh.

5. Use the slivers

When a bar gets thin, press the sliver onto the top of the next bar while both are wet. It'll fuse on — nothing wasted.

Our Turmeric Soap Bar is a full 100 g bar, so with dry storage you're looking at weeks of rich, warm lather from a single bar. Browse the full Soaps collection to stock up.
